2012

Hi there....just went for the movie 2012 today.Frankly speaking i liked the movie. The sound and effects as well as the story line , everything was great. If the world were to end on 2012 i cannot think of anyone escaping in a huge ship like in the movie ,i feel it is simply impossible for humans to do the things shown in the movie. But the prediction of this catastrophe is not only given in Mayan Calender and Chinese Mythology but a recent internet based prediction software too pointed to the date 21 Dec 2012 as some thing might happen that will change humanity for ever.
I personally feel these things are just coincidences. But if the alignment of the solar system with the center of milky way which astronomers said will happen then has to do anything with the dooms day ,then...............................
Well if the prediction happens or not, what we have to do is to live with peace and happiness.thats all i want....ha ha.......

Lab Exam

At last,Fourth Semester Lab exams are here.I had my Electronic Circuits Lab today.Luckily I got ,perhaps the simplest of all, the RC Coupled Amplifier. The midband gain was required to be 30 and frequency response was also to be calculated.I was afraid if I would get the Tuned amplifier. All experimets involving an IFT has created problems ranging from open terminals to transistor being damaged, during the regular lab sessions.Such problems were not reported during the first day,but we cannot expect the same the next day.But the digital electronics lab was perhaps the worst exam in the 2 1/2 years at Govt College of Engg, Kannur.I thought that I would get the output at the first trial. The question was but a bit difficult.A synchronous counter to count 0-2-4-6-7-5-3-1-0 and repeat. The design for the D flip Flop inputs were simple but implementing those using logic gates drove me crazy.I had to use 6 ICs inluding the flip flops and a total of 84 pins and i had to use 66 pins out of them.but i feel a bit sad because i was the one who first left the lab for circuits lab but for this one i was the last.there were questions like 3 bit code convertor, counter t0 count 0-2-4-6-0 etc that needed just 1 IC and 4 ICs respectively.but as of now, that session is closed. As it is said,NO USE CRYING OVER SPILT MILK,i must leave it behind. Also there are marks for the design and circuit diagrams, fair record and viva...........not a complete disaster, but still.................................

Learning Linux

During the vacation I started to get involved in the open source revolution with some attempts to use 'Linux From Scratch'.But i later found out that it was a long procedure and even though code lines are given we should be able to find our ways through the terminal and know basic command line parameters. This requires a lot of research into the basic organisation and working of a Linux system, which is a very time consuming process. So I found out another alternative, that is specific to Ubuntu installation-Reconstructor Installing the reconstructor through the bundled Add/Remove software utility was simple and using it was a lot more simple since it has a wizard like interface with options to customise everything from boot screen and logo to installing our own themes and some fancy features like transparency or to change the default font&font size.I tried some of its features and compiled an ISO image. The only downside I feel is that it works only under a Linux installation and a better way around is to use a virutal machine with Ubuntu installed as Reconstructor is built for Ubuntu.Later I installed 'my version' in a virtual machine and tested it too ! ! using my own customised version was a great experince for me.With a little bit more of effort I think I can add some more features to look a different form normal Ubuntu installations.

Vacation is here.....

For nine days starting from today starts the Onam vacation.I had plans of devoting some time to be a part of the Open Source Revolution and as a part of that just checked out http://www.linuxfromscratch.org It is an online guidebook for creating our own Linux Distros.but to use it one must acquire fair amount of working knowledge about Linux, which I dont have. All basic steps for creating a distribution, the command line parameters as well as the implications of every line of code plus the synatx are given in a well documnted easy to understand manner. The process of creation uses an existing installation as a host environment to work on.Besides there is also ALFS,which is Automated Linux From Scratch, which automates most of the LFS build procedure and aftert that.I will definitely try it out once I have a good understanding of a Linux System.

Today was the first full day class in Fifth Semester.Perhaps one of the most intersting subjects in E&C is Microprocessors and Microcontrollers, and today was the first class of MP.That was truly great.I wonder how such a small chip is capable of doing large computations.start was good today, but classes are only till this friday before college closes for Onam vacations and within the span of 10 days we are sure to forget a great share of what is taken today.I am always excited by Lab work but hate writing records.Tomorrow is the first lab of Linear Integrated circuits basically the IC 741.The other lab is Computer Programming lab.I have no problems with thateither, but forgetting the code and logic for simple programs can be as frustrating as being unable to design a circuit for lab exam.
Now to the gaming section,I am still stuck on to the 81st mission in GTA SanAndreas.I cannot figue out a way to finish that, but somehow i must finish that.I am now working on it.As a week long vacation is coming I am pretty sure I will finish it in that interval........

21 August 2009

Today was the Onam celebrations in my college. It was a grand program. The flower carpet contest was the main attraction. We all had donated Rs 30 for flowers, which have become expensive due to bad monsoon in cultivating areas. Our design was a beautiful one.Very colourful and filled with lovelyness.Last year our carpet was a mess, thankfully, this year it is not.Our decesion to use sand for that extra buldge might have caused us the prize. The judges were impressed with our design and style of arrangement, but using other materials was against the rules.
Sadly i could not take any photos to post here.I will do it as soon as i get sme form my friends.
